What is polishing & linishing?

Polishing and linishing are surface finishing techniques aimed at refining metal surfaces to achieve desired levels of smoothness, shine, and texture.

Polishing involves using abrasives and polishing compounds to remove imperfections, scratches, and surface irregularities from metal surfaces. This process results in a mirror-like finish, enhancing the aesthetic appeal of the material.

Linishing focuses on creating a uniform surface texture by grinding or sanding the metal with abrasive belts or wheels. This process removes surface layers, creating a consistent finish and preparing the metal for subsequent treatments or coatings.

Benefits of polishing & linishing

Enhanced Aesthetics

The primary benefit of polishing and linishing is the ability to transform raw metal surfaces into visually stunning finishes. Whether it's stainless steel, aluminium, brass, or copper, these techniques can elevate the appearance of metal components, making them stand out in any application.

Improved Durability

By smoothing out surface imperfections and removing corrosion-prone areas, polishing and linishing can enhance the durability and longevity of metal parts. This is particularly crucial in industries where components are subjected to harsh environments or heavy wear and tear.

Cleanliness and Hygiene

Smooth, polished surfaces are easier to clean and maintain, making them ideal for applications where hygiene is paramount. In sectors such as food processing, pharmaceuticals, and healthcare, polished metal surfaces help prevent bacterial growth and contamination.

Precision Engineering

Polishing and linishing allow for precise control over surface finishes, ensuring that components meet strict dimensional and aesthetic specifications. This level of precision is essential in industries such as automotive, aerospace, and electronics, where even minor imperfections can affect performance.

Our polishing & linishing capabilities

The design of some components demands we undertake a linishing or polishing operation or a combination of both, prior to Electroplating or Powdercoating.

This typically will be to remove heavier flash or burrs and to provide a high-quality surface finish for these subsequent processes.

The final finish can often have combined up to 4 separate operations for the optimum preparation.

Our polishing and linishing facilities allow the processing of zinc diecastings, cast steel, brass and aluminium components with speed, accuracy and a high-quality level.
